Our team: key personnel
With nearly 40 years of experience under his belt, Andy Aelbers is a leading force in the BC marine scene. A rigger by trade, Andy started work at a number of local shipyards before joining Key Marine Industries. He was invited to Germany to become a certified Liebherr Crane technician. At Key's testing facilities, Andy worked with Transport Canada to establish practical standards for many aspects of the industry, including timber deck lashing test procedures. It was there that he established himself as a top-notch repair superintendent, building a strong and loyal customer base. At his clients' urging, he established A-1 Marine Services in 2004, and he has not looked back ever since. He has grown the business to its current position at the top of the market, always finding new ways to serve his customers. Andy has never lost the personal touch and attention to detail that has been his hallmark throughout his entire career. A tireless worker, his love of fishing and travel is well-known.
Peter learned his trade at the Gdansk Shipyard in Poland, then came to Vancouver in the 1980's. He joined the team at Key Marine and worked for them until A-1 Marine Services was established. He has been one the key personnel at A-1 from the beginning and has been involved in almost every major project since then. His work ethic and commitment to getting the job done on time has gone a long way to establish A-1 Marine's leading position in the industry.
One of the newest members of the A-1 team, Steve's experience in the BC shipping industry goes back to 1981. He has been involved in almost every sector of the business, initially having worked his way up to Operations Manager at some of Vancouver's leading agencies, then moved to VP of Marketing for a Vancouver-based liner service. He was hired by Key Marine as a specialist in timber deck lashings. This evolved into becoming the Canadian representative for Obert Marine Supply, handling all of their international business for over 20 years. Joining A-1 in early 2017, Steve continues as a deck lashing specialist, as well as business development and customer relations. He also steps in as project manager for major contracts.
Ginny leads the front-office team that enables A-1 to operate in a challenging and ever-changing business. Along with Tara-Rose Wicks, responsibilities range from administration, Human Resources, puchasing, payroll and accounts payable. With deep roots in the BC shipping industry, they understand the complexities of daily operations and the constantly shifting working environment.
